What now?

What the heck?!

My wifi again??

This is the second time in Thailand…

Maybe the internet isn’t as good as it used to be here..

Oh wait…

It’s not the wifi.

Twitter (X) is down.

Ahhh, good ole social media randomly shutting down.

And right when I was in the middle of speaking with a prospective copywriting student.

It was a great reminder that you should never rely too heavily on your “personal brand” on social media.

As a new freelance copywriter, you hear it everywhere you go:

  • “Build your personal brand”

  • “Post content consistently”

  • “Engage daily”

That’s how you become a $10k/month copywriter in 2025…

Right?

Wrong!

You don’t become a $10k/mo copywriter by writing Tweets, Threads, and posting reels on Insta and TikTok.

You become a six-figure copywriter by learning two things:

  1. How to write damn good copy that converts

  2. How to outreach to clients

Posting on social media, engaging, and building a following isn’t the same.

Sure, I recommend using social media DMs to outreach to clients.

And that means your social media profile shouldn’t look terrible.

But spending your days posting content, engaging, and focusing on growth is pointless.

That’s the slow lane.

And if you’re here, on my email list, reading this email…

Then, pretty good odds you prefer the fast lane.

Why spend 2 years learning how to write copy to hit your first $5,000-$10,000 month…

When you could do it in a few months?

So, back to Twitter.

All the personal brand gurus are freaking out right now.

But the real copywriters - the ones building their business up fast and focusing on those 2 core principles (learn how to write really good copy and learn how to outreach the right way)…

They’re not sweating it one bit.

Why?

Because if one social platform goes down, they can DM prospects from another.

Bye bye Twitter…

And hello Instagram, TikTok, Facebook.

And if all social platforms go down?

They can outreach to prospects via email.

And if the entire internet goes down…

They can go door to door to local businesses.

How is that possible?

Because they’ve built their business on rock, not sand.

They’ve got a firm foundation.

It’s not about tactics.

It’s about the fundamentals.

Practicing their craft the right way to know how to get results.

Outreaching with a proof-first, value-first approach to know how to turn those results into income.

That’s what it’s all about.

And me?

Financially it wouldn’t matter much to me if all of my social followings and even my email list was taken away from me (I’d miss you, sure, but I’d still keep making six figures per year in just a few hours each day)…
