Want to land clients?
You need a portfolio!
Haha… juuuuuuust kidding.
You hear this kinda stuff all the time though:
“Build your portfolio if you want to land clients.”
“Put together a bunch of spec work.”
“I’m just working on my portfolio right now.”
As someone who’s landed dozens and dozens of copywriting clients over the years…
And amassed over $500,000 in the process…
I think that’s a load of BALONEY!
Here’s why…
The reason people think you need a portfolio is because it’s a form of proof that you know how to write copy.
Fair enough. And I 100% agree. It’s proof.
The problem is… nobody knows how to build a portfolio. Nobody is specializing their copy first. Nobody’s niching down first.
So everyone’s portfolio’s look like a big hot mess.
And in many cases, that ugly portfolio is doing you more harm than good (and turning off potential clients).
When outreaching, you don’t always want to blast your prospect with 500 things.
“Here’s a sample about this. Here’s some spec work I did on this. Oh I worked with this one guy here’s a thing I did…”
Trust me when I say this:
There’s a better way. An easier way. A quicker way.
