Steal My $97 Outreach Strategy For Free
How my 1:1 students are landing clients.
Hey friend! Welcome to Storey Time. If you were forwarded this email, add your email below to make sure you receive my next issue in your inbox.
Did you know you can listen to the audio version of my newsletter?
If you’re short on time, and would rather listen to my newsletter, well, now you can.
This makes it easy for you to soak up all the value and info from my newsletter while:
Driving to work
Going for a walk
Cleaning at home
Last week, I released my $59 course for free, Six Figure Writer: 8 Proven Ways to Land Writing Clients Fast.
And the feedback is just rolling in.
Get your copy now (instant access).
In today’s newsletter, you’re going to get part two (my favorite module) all on warm outreach via social media.
It’s the main outreach method I teach my 1:1 writing mentorship students that’s landing them clients fast.
So, if HOT outreach is the fastest way to land a paid client…
What’s the second fastest way to land a client?
No, not inbounds with your “personal brand.”
No, not cold outreach.
The answer?
…
WARM OUTREACH.
Warm.
We want to go warm!
Now that you’ve done HOT outreach by calling up your cousin, best friend from high school, and your old boss, it’s time to jump online again.
(You did do the action in Pt. 1 for HOT OUTREACH, right?)
Now that you’ve landed a few clients from your friends, family, and co-workers offline…
It’s time to go back online…
Turn on your phone
Open your laptop
Open up Twitter
Let’s get rolling with warm outreach.
Here’s what happens when you do warm outreach the right way (My mentorship student Chase landed his first client in under 30 days):
And Chase isn’t the only one that warm outreach is working for…
Here’s another one of my students who landed a client on Twitter by DMing him (using the strategy below)…
Almost every week, I’m hearing new stories of writers who used my exact warm outreach strategy to land clients.
As is the case with Nemo, who landed two clients with warm outreach recently:
Just remember…
The hotter the prospect, the more likely you are to close them.
The colder the prospect, the less likely you are to close them.
That’s why you want to go HOT, and then WARM, before you try COLD.
If you read through step one already (which you should have)…
And you already reached out to friends and family (which you also should have)…
ONLY THEN should you start finding warm prospects online.
Thankfully, you can do it right from the comfort of your favorite social media app, Twitter.
How do you do warm outreach on Twitter?
You stop acting like an AI ROBOT COMMODITY who spams non-personalized cold emails, and instead, become a PERSON of VALUE.
Well, how do you do that?
By following the FREE-Step Strategy.
BONUS: FREE-Step Strategy ($97 Value)
This is my exact warm outreach playbook to land clients fast.
I should be charging money for this.
I’ll probably release this strategy as a $97 course in a few months.
That’s how much it’s worth (if not more).
But, I just wanted to spread the word and help.
Because I truly want you to experience the same freedom writing has given me.
My mission is to help 500 writers their first paid client by Dec 31, 2024.
So, releasing this as a giveaway gets me one step closer to achieving that.
One thing to keep in mind:
This checklist assumes you’ve already been writing every day for weeks, if not months. It assumes you’re already a half-decent copywriter.
If you try to skip over putting in the reps, it doesn’t matter if you nail this strategy. You’ll never land a client if your copy isn’t good.
Practice daily. Put your reps in. Then start outreach.
If you’re a brand new copywriter, then it’s best to start with my FREE ebook: How I Landed My First Writing Client in 45 Days.
The ebook goes over how I went from knowing nothing about copywriting to landing my first client — showing you exactly how to build the right foundations as a writer on the path to full
Once you’ve gone through that (or you feel you’re ready to start pitching clients), then come back to this FREE-Step Strategy for your outreach roadmap.
Ready?
Let’s go.
Here’s how (follow this checklist to win):
Go on X (or the platform of your choice).
Find prospects.
🔒 Step 3 (how to find high-paying prospects and spreadsheet access) is only part of my monthly 1:1 paid mentorship. Add your potential clients to a prospect spreadsheet (and add all of their info).
Follow them on X. Like and comment on a few posts. DM them to start a conversation (as a human — no pitching yet).
Once they message you back, they’re officially a warm lead.
Now that they’re warm, it’s time to get to work. Go to their website and check their copy (i.e. welcome email). The type of copy you audit depends on your specialty.
Write them up an audit in a Google Doc (give them 5-10 tips to improve their email) “i.e. need a better subject line, didn’t state your mission, big chunks of text, didn’t tell the reader what kind of content they’ll be receiving, didn’t include CTA, didn’t include link, didn’t tease at the next email, etc.” —>Make sure to tell them why each optimization is better (remember, you’re the expert — when you TEACH them, they TRUST you that you can write emails that make them more money).
Next, rewrite their piece of copy. Go to the same Google Doc that you wrote out this audit with all the tips. Copy and paste their current piece of copy into the Doc.
Write all the audit tips in the doc.
—>You want them to see the tips (with reasons why). Remember, your goal here is to show them how they will make more money and that you’re the expert. For example, if you’re doing a welcome email, tell them why it’s important to get the welcome email right (first impressions, it gets the highest open rate of any email you’ll ever send, it can earn them lots of money on autopilot since it’s automated, etc.)
In the same Google Doc, write the new piece of copy below the tips.
You should have 3 sections: Audit, Old Copy, and New Copy. You want them to be able to compare their current to your new.
🔒 Step 12 is only part of my monthly 1:1 paid mentorship. Now that your audit is done and your copy is done, MESSAGE ME on X. Send me your copy and I will personally audit it and optimize it. I’ll send you a Loom vid or make some comments on the Google doc to help you refine it before sending it over. I can do one of these per day — and if you want to send me more, I’ll also try to get to those too :)
This is how Chase DiMonda landed his first client. He rewrote a prospect’s landing page. Then, I hopped on a call with Chase for an hour to optimize and improve it. Chase got it 70% of the way there. He did all the heavy lifting, but I helped support that piece to the end which helped him land that client.
Now that it’s all good to go, message the prospect on X (remember, they’ve already messaged you so they’re a warm lead.
Here’s what you can write as a DM:
Example template: “Hey [name], I checked out your website, and signed up to your email list! I got your welcome email and saw a ton of different ways you could optimize it to generate more revenue (I’m an email copywriter).
5 Tips to improve your welcome email:
1. Your subject line is decent but could be simpler — by changing it to something like “Welcome (please read).” You’ll get more opens this way.
2. You didn’t include a preview text (this is basically the subheadline of your email copy and is a great place to build curiosity).
3. Your email has really big chunks of text which makes it really hard to read (people will bounce if it’s not easy to read).
4. You didn’t include a CTA, link, etc.
5. etc. I really love what you’re doing and your mission, so I actually wrote you a new welcome email (for free) with all these tips implemented. Just wanted to help you out. Enjoy :)
*****Attach Link to Google Doc with audit and new welcome email”
Remember: give them the audit/tips right in the DM (as well as the Google Doc). You want to ensure they get INSTANT value without having to click a link first. Once they see your tips/advice, they’ll be more likely to click the Google Doc link to your free sample.
🔒 Step 14 is only part of my monthly 1:1 paid mentorship. Follow-Up Tactic 1.
🔒 Step 15 is only part of my monthly 1:1 paid mentorship. Follow-Up Tactic 2.
At this point, one of three things will happen:
Scenario 1:
If no reply, or they reply and don’t want it, don’t worry, you didn’t waste your time.
—>Now you have a portfolio piece (just remove company name/logo). —>And you got experience working on a real project from a real company.
You’re 1% better now.
Scenario 2:
They reply and say “Wow, thank you so much. This is great. I’d love to hire you but I just can’t afford a copywriter right now. Is there anything I can do to help you out?”
—>Ask to use it as a portfolio piece (with their information on it). —>Ask for a testimonial. —>Ask for referrals. —>Ask them to implement it on their site (and start tracking results = future case study).
If your work is good, this person will likely want to help you out now since you did something awesome for them for free.
A single referral from this person could lead to a paid client quickly.
Scenario 3:
This is the best-case scenario: they reply and love it. And they say, “Wow can I hire you to do x, y, z for my brand? I actually could use a writer and this is great!”
Boom. You just got hired.
Because you took the risk off the client by doing the work upfront for free.
Scenario 3 is exactly what happened with Chase, and what my other mentorship students are finding success in.
With this outreach strategy…
Any of the three scenarios above is a WIN.
Which means every time you outreach, you elevate your career as a freelance copywriter. It’s NEVER a wasted outreach.
If you do this every day for 30 days straight (and you’re a half decent copywriter), I’d be shocked if you don’t land a client.
In fact, I’d be willing to bet you $20 that if you try this exact strategy out for 30 days straight you’ll get at least a “free” client.
You can hold me to that bet. ;)
