Okay, I’ve got a quick copy lesson for you to level up your game.
And it all starts with Bubba Gump’s million-dollar product from under da seaaaa.

Tonight I was hunkering for something naughty.
I was STARVING after I finished my work day.
And for the most part, I try to eat healthy.
Smoothies in the morning (yes, with a boatload of spinach and wild blueberries)…
And most of the time some greens with whatever my wife’s cooking up for lunch and dinner.
But tonight, I let it alllllll slide.
I Wanted Something Big, Bad, and Hefty 😤
So I bolted down my windy wooden staircase and sprinted to my big ole freezer.
And then, I opened up my frozen treasure chest to see what kind of scrumptious delicacies I could uncover…
Hmmmm….
What do we got in here?
Broccoli?
Nope.
Cauliflower?
Definitely not.
Spinach?
C’mon 😕
There it is!
Shrimp, baby.
I’m in.
But, wait. These juicy Wild Argentine Frozen Shrimp need a carby sidekick.
Oh no…
There it is.
GARLIC BREAD.
I didn’t even flinch.
So, I threw the wild shrimp under one arm and my (and I’m not kidding) 2 foot garlic bread baguette under the other and I was off to the races.
15 minutes later and I created a travesty (and majesty) of a culinary creation: The Shrimp Roll Delight.
Guess Who Comes Creepin’ Up On Me…
So anyways…
I’m two minutes into mowing this thing down (and starting to shed both tears of joy and sadness that it’ll soon be over).
And my wife gets a whiff of my garlicy, seafood-lovin treat.
“Hey can I have some?” she yells from the kitchen sink around the corner.
“Yeah, Jenny, come get a taste of the goods!”
Well, another minute goes by and I’m about 2/3rds of the way through this buttery (and surely regretful) shrimp roll masterpiece.
“Jenny, you gonna come have a bite or not?”
“Yeah, yeah save me some.”
“Jenny if you don’t come get a bite now, it’s gonna be gone. I love you, but this thing’s gonna be completely cozied up in my belly in about 45 seconds.
Zooooooooommmm!
Heeeeere’s Jenny!
“Okay fine, fine, I’m coming, save me some!”
And she grabs that hunk of a shrimp roll out of my hands and chomps away.
Her eyes widen with delight as the shrimp juices and crunchy-on-the-outside-but-soft-on-the-inside garlic roll dance together like a sweet symphony.
It was everything she dreamed of and more.
And…
There.
There it is.
Did You Catch That?
Did you spot the copywriting lesson here?
Did you see where the magic happened?
Let’s go back in time 1 minute.
What was it that made Jenny finally drop what she was doing in the kitchen and run over to my delectable shrimp roll?
“Jenny if you don’t come get a bite now… it’s gonna be gone in 45 seconds.”
Like magic.
She appeared right before my very eyes.
And snatched that heavenly sandwich from my hands.
Why?
URGENCY
Urgency is one of the most powerful copywriting tools you can whip out to crank up the effectiveness of your copy.
It’s like magic.
Any time you can tap into urgency, DO IT.
But, two things:
1) Don’t Make It Up, Don’t Fake it, And Don’t Be Deceptive
It better be real urgency, otherwise your audience won’t believe you (or buy).
They’re smart. They’re not dumb. They’re your friend. And they can smell B.S. from a mile away.
Attach a real reason to your urgency. The more specific, the more believable. The more believable, the more sales.
I was really going to finish that sandwich. I did NOT care if Jenny was a minute late. It was going in my belly if she didn’t show up fast.
If you’re selling products in an ecom store, is there limited inventory? Are shipping carriers busier because it’s the holiday season so they should order their gift sooner to get it in time for Christmas?
If you’re selling coaching services, is there a start and end date for your client’s group coaching program?
Can you attach it to a well known holiday or specific time of year like Black Friday Cyber Monday? (Which is the case with my current Six-Figure Copywriter Course offer.)
Whatever it is, show it off! Tell people there’s a time limit.
And when it ends, close access! Don’t be the guy who tells people, “after popular demand, we extended the sale” — that’ll kill trust and leave a bad taste in your audience’s mouth. Plus, they won’t believe you next time you bring up any urgency. It loses its effect and diminishes your future copy.
And… the second thing:
2) Urgency Can’t Fix a Bad Product
Urgency isn’t the main ingredient in your persuasion cake.
It all starts with your flour, eggs, and sugar which is your product.
And, if that product sucks (and tastes like moldy bread), then it doesn’t matter how good your sprinkles are.
Nobody’s gonna eat it.
Not to mention, all the other goodies that make your cake scrumptious, fluffy, and delicious like vanilla, baking powder, icing, and that teeny, tiny pinch of salt to get that perfect zing.
That’s the bulk of your copy - driven by your headline, benefits, and CTA.
Urgency? That’s the Sprinkles on Your Cake
It’s a colorful confetti you add on top to draw people to your product.
So get your product right. Get your copy right.
Then drive urgency like the sprinkles on top.
