Learning copy isn't hard

Don't believe that lie (do these 3 things instead)

Learning copy isn’t hard (don’t believe that lie)

You want to know the secret to learning copy fast?

To know how to write well…

How to hook people, get them engaged, and convince them to click?

And ultimately…

How to generate sales for business owners?

It’s so easy (despite what you’ve been told).

(Yet most gurus will try to tell you it’s complicated so you buy their $2,000+ program)

Here’s the secret:

WRITE MORE

STUDY MORE

PITCH MORE

That’s it.

You do those 3 things every day, you can’t lose.

In just a second, I’ll explain why.

But first…

Quick side story on my early copy journey in 2019…

Six years ago, when I was first starting out as a new copy cub…

My baby copywriting skills sucked.

I was terrible at writing.

(because I am NOT a lifelong writer).

You see, I never wrote in a journal or diary or did poetry or ANYTHING…

Outside of high school, I didn’t write a thing.

ZILCH!

I hated writing – and thought it was boring.

I say this to show you that I don’t have a strong writing background…

Yet I figured out how to make gooooood money fast with copywriting.

(And fell in love with writing in the process)

So I was able to land my first client in 6 weeks, quit my job in 3 months, hit $5,000/month in 7 months, hit $9,000/month in 12 months

And reached a peak of $15,850 in one month as a freelance copywriter.

Sure, I’m not making millions.

But, I’m making about 4x as much money than my last 9 to 5 (and I have more free time and flexibility than ever before).

So, how did I level up my copy skills fast — and how can you do the same?

(So you can start making $5,000-$10,000/month on autopilot)

I wrote 1,000+ words every single day.

Let me say this again because it’s extremely important.

More important than 99% of guru advice you’re going to get (because it’s so simple):

I wrote 1,000+ words every single day as a new copywriter.

Every morning, I woke up at 5-6 am (before my 9 to 5)... slammed a cup of black coffee, opened my laptop, and wrote as much as possible before I had to drive to work.

I was getting in between 30-90 minutes every morning

Step One: Morning “Power Writing Sessions”

This skyrocketed my writing ability FAST.

It’s just time in the craft. Don’t overcomplicate it. Don’t overlook it.

Just write more than the competition and you’ll level up faster.

But, that’s not all I did.

Next up…

Step Two: You Need to Study Copywriting

This means buy the books, courses, coaching, and whatever copy info you can get your hands on (from trustworthy copywriters with a good track record of getting results).

I invested $5,000 into my copywriting education in the first year alone.

I got over a dozen copy and marketing books. I got a ton of courses.

And I studied every single day.

Writing more is a good start. But it’s not enough. You need to understand COPY.

COPY is not WRITING.

Copy is SALES in the written form.

Study more and you'll be better than the next guy.

And, finally, there’s one more key thing that got me to six figures per year faster than 90% of people…

Step Three: You Need to Get Client Experience FAST

I got client work experience FAST.

You see, I was never too proud to take on cheap or free work.

I never considered myself “above” cheap work.

I understand early on that if I’m going to build this business up to $10,000/month, I have to be willing to eat DIRT for awhile.

And eat some dirt I did.

Lots of it.

And I’m so thankful I did.

My first client was a $15 blog post. Yay.

My next 20 clients were $15-$30 blog posts.

I could have given up and said “Copywriting is dead. Copywriting is saturated. AI is taking over”.

But I didn’t.

Because I humbled myself and understood if I want to make $10,000/month, I need to spend time learning a skill worthy of $10,000/month.

It wasn’t until I was 7 months in that I got my first $1,000+ project.

But things quickly snowballed ☃️

Why?

Because I gained insane confidence from those first few projects.

I gained a skill that most copy gurus don’t talk about:

Client work experience.

That is a skill in and of itself: how to talk to clients, how to manage clients, how to onboard, how to price and package your services, how to negotiate, how to create contracts, how to communicate, how to deal with revisions, how to work within a team, how to work within different structures, how to work within different software, how to close out a project, how to invoice, how to convince someone to stick around as a recurring client, and more.

You ain’t gonna learn that from writing and studying copy books alone.

You’ve got to get on the job experience.

So…

Start PITCHING clients daily.

(don’t do this from day one — you need to build up your skills first. But when your copy can get better results than the business owners’ copy, then start outreaching to prospects every day).

Pitch asap, land clients asap (free or cheap), so you can get client work experience…

ASAP!

The confidence you gain from client work is invaluable.

And whoever gets it the soonest (at all costs) gets to $10k/month the soonest.
