I'm going to lose 42 lbs by September

3 weeks ago I set a crazy goal:

To lose 42 pounds in 4 months.

More on that in a minute.

But first…

Have you ever read Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill?

You know, this book >

That’s one of the first business books I’ve ever read.

To create the book, Napoleon Hill interviewed the 100 richest men in America about 100 years ago.

He wanted to discover the secrets of the ultra rich. And if they had any common habits, beliefs, etc.

Well, they did.

One of them was goals.

These 100+ multimillionaires all set goals.

Quote from the book:

"Riches do not respond to wishes. They respond only to definite plans, backed by definite desires, through constant persistence."

I’ve been overweight for years.

Pretty much since Covid. But definitely since the birth of my first daughter.

I used to be fit. After kids, no more. But they’re not to blame. I am.

According to BMI charts, I’m technically in the obese category.

Yikes.

So, 3 weeks ago I decided enough was enough.

I’m going to lose weight.

I’m going to get fit.

This year.

So I set my goal:

Go from 222 pounds to 180 pounds by September 2026.

That’s just 4 months.

I’ve gotta lose about 10 pounds per month to reach my goal.

Never done this before. I’ve tried, lost a few pounds, then went back to my old ways.

Not this time.

I’m going to hit 180 pounds by September 1.

And this is my public declaration of that goal.

You see, I’ve learned something a number of years ago when I found business success with copywriting.

Goals are everything. I read about it in Think and Grow Rich.

But I finally lived it when copywriting brought me my dream business and dream life.

I set a clear goal in December 2018:

I’m going to make $5,000/month with copywriting by June 1, 2019.

I gave myself 6 months to hit the goal.

And then I took action daily.

For 6 months straight.

Did I hit my goal?

Nope. I actually failed to reach $5k by the 6 month mark.

I was still only making $1,000/month from copywriting.

But, month 7, I did it.

Landed a $1,100 welcome email series client, a $3,500 website copy project, and a few smaller gigs.

Hit just barely over $5,000 that 7th month.

What I learned back then is that you NEED to set goals.

You need to set a specific numbered goal.

And a specific timeline.

You need to believe it’s possible.

And then you need to take unrelenting action until you win.

That’s the part most people miss about goal setting.

There’s this story about the 2 farmers and God…

The two farmers were experiencing a drought in their city.

It was destroying their crops, their food, and their livelihoods.

They were running out of time.

So the two farmers prayed for God to send rain.

One farmer prayed and sat inside his home for God to send the rain.

One farmer prayed. Then he got his field ready. Tilled the land. Pulled weeds. Prepped each row. And planted seeds.

God sent the rain.

But only on one farmer’s land.

Guess who got it? The farmer who prayed and sat or prayed and took action?

The farmer who prayed and didn’t move proved he didn’t believe God would send rain.

The farmer who prayed and got his field ready truly had the faith God would send rain.

And He did. So, he ended up with the harvest.

You see, goal setting without a PLAN and ACTION is just wishful thinking.

You think your goal to “get rich with copywriting so I can quit my job” is enough. But it isn’t.

You need to set a specific goal. You need to give yourself a clear deadline. You need to believe it can work. And you need to take action daily to make it a reality.

That’s what I’m doing for my weight loss goals right now.

In 20 days, I’m down 6 pounds. And I am going to make sure when the first month ends, I’ve lost 10 (to stay on track for my goal to lose 42 by September).

I’m not doing nothing. I’ve completely revamped my diet. Tracking calories with an app. Walking daily. Running 3-4 times a week. Learning from successful fitness coaches online.

And I’m going to reach my goal.

So back to you.

What’s your goal?

Is it to make an extra $3,000/month from copywriting?

$5,000? $10,000? $20,000?

How soon are you going to reach that goal?

Next month?

In 6 months?

By December 31, 2026?

What are you doing daily to make it happen?

Are you going to be like the farmer who prayed and waited around?

Or the farmer who prayed and got his field ready?
