He almost quit until THIS happened
$4,000 retainer
Most copywriters have it backwards:
They watch a few YouTube videos
Write a couple practice copy samples
Then try to charge a cleint $3,000-$5,000
No proof. No testimonials. No results to point to.
And then they wonder why nobody's biting.
Here's what actually works in 2026…
Keep reading to hear how one of my students went from nearly quitting 3 months ago to landing his first $4,000 retainer…

Kevin’s my 1:1 coaching student.
He was in the trenches a couple months ago. Grinding on Upwork. Sending pitch after pitch. Struggling to land $100, $200, $300 projects. Barely scraping by.
He hit a wall. Told me he was nearly ready to throw in the towel.
But, I let him know his copy was solid. He’s getting better every single day. And just to keep going. That it’s okay to eat dirt for a season. This is part of it.
He kept sending proposals.
Two weeks ago, he landed a $4,000/month copywriting retainer.
This month he'll clear $5,000-$6,000. Next month he's on pace for $8,000-$10,000.
Just three months ago he was making less than $1,000/month.
And now, he beat out 40 other copywriters to lock in $4,000 of recurring income from a single client.
You see this pic below?

That's the hockey stick growth curve. It looks flat for a long time. Even seems like progress goes backwards for a bit. Then it curves up a little and you wonder if it's going to be worth it.
Then it completely takes off.
I know this works because I lived it.
7 years ago, I started by writing $15 blog posts on Fiverr. It was cheap work. Unglamorous. I ate dirt.
But I put everything I had into every single one:
Got a review. Did good work
Got more experience. Did good work
Made little money. Kept doing good work
I upsold clients. Took them off the platform. Used proof from one client to land the next. Raised my rates every time I had new results to back it up.
Then I started climbing.
$15 blog posts turned into $50 blog posts.
$100 blog posts turned into $200.
Then I landed an $1,100 email series.
Then a $3,400 website copy project.
Then a $7,000 welcome email series.
$8,000/month. $9,000/month. $10,000/month. $15,000/month.
$800,000+ later, and those $15 blog posts were 100% worth it.
The thing is, you’re only going to get that hockey stick growth curve skyrocketing upwards if you don't quit.
The difference between him and most people who try copywriting isn't talent. It's that he had someone in his corner telling him the truth, fixing his copy in real time, and showing him exactly what to do next.
That's what 1:1 coaching can give you:
Weekly coaching calls to show you exactly what to do every single wek. Daily copy feedback to show you where you’re going wrong and how to improve. A direct line to a six-figure copywriter who's already done what you're trying to do so you can skip over 6-12 months of mistakes.
I've got 2 spots left for April. Once they're filled, doors close.
If you want in, reply to this email with "April" and I'll send you the details.
Brandon "eat dirt for a season" Storey
P.S. Kevin didn't have some special advantage. He didn't have connections. He just had a coach who wouldn't let him quit, a system that actually works, and the work ethic to stay consistent daily even when he didn’t feel like it.
If you want the same thing, reply "April" before both spots are gone.
