I got a few questions from subscribers this week…

So I figured I’d answer them here.

Question #1: Brandon, if I buy your program to get good at copy, will I get good just by following it or do I have to also read copywriting books ?

Answer:

If you want to get good at writing copy, you NEED to master consumer psychology.

As your copywriting coach, I’ll teach you everything I know about how to tap into consumer’s minds and get them to pull out their wallets…

Using only your words.

But…

I can’t sit here and tell you I’ve generated more money from my copywriting than Joseph Sugarman, David Ogilvy, or Gary Halbert.

Sure, I’ve made my clients over $1 million with my copywriting.

I’ve done $100k+ months for them with email alone.

But I haven’t sold hundreds of millions (and even billions) like the legends mentioned above.

So when it comes to learning how to write copy WELL… you need to hit the books and learn the fundamentals from these guys.

That means you need to take courses, get coaching, study high performing copy, and yes… read copywriting books like Adweek, Boron Letters, and Ogilvy on Advertising.

And if you’re the kind of person who can’t help but fall asleep reading a paperback?

Then go listen to the audio versions of these books (you can find Adweek on YouTube and listen on repeat if you really want).

Question #2 : As a person that's interested in becoming an email copywriter should I know how to use email marketing software? Do businesses expect an email copywriter to design, automate, and send emails themselves? Or should I just be worried about writing the emails in a google doc and sending it to the client?

Answer:

If you want to make $1,000-$5,000/month as a copywriter, you can absolutely get by with Google Doc copy.

But…

If you want to increase your odds of hitting $5,000-$10,000+ per month… then skill stacking with some kind of software makes it 10x easier to get in that income range.

It’s the difference between two offers:

I’ll write the copy for 2 emails a week for you for $1,000/month…

vs.

I’ll write, implement/format them in Kit/beehiiv/Klaviyo, schedule them, A/B test them, track data, send you a monthly report… and you don’t have to lift a finger to generate an ROI for $5,000/month.

When you target the right person, they just want to buy back their time and don’t care what it costs (since they’re making such good money already).

Question #3: How many days will it take for me to get my first client by working 2 hours a day?

Answer:

With the wrong strategy, it could be months (if not years).

But, with the right one, it could be 3-4 weeks.

I see way too many new copywriters outreaching way too soon.

They see a video on YouTube that says they should cold email/cold DM prospects the day after they start learning copywriting.

This is lunacy.

Don’t listen to any guru who tells you that this is a good idea.

It won’t work.

But… you also don’t need to wait 6+ months of studying and practicing copy before you’re ready.

Here’s a stupid simple test to know if you’re ready to outreach: if your copy is better than the person you’re outreaching to.

So, what’s realistic for the average new copywriter?

Most people can expect to get their first client in 2 hours of writing/studying/outreaching per day…

In 1-3 months.

But, with a great strategy, I’ve seen many copywriters do it in under 30 days.

My average student makes it happen in less than a month (~70% of my copywriting students).

Why?

Because they deploy my triple-pronged approach to learning copy quickly.

Most people using my system land their first client in only 20-30 outreaches.

Not 1,000-5,000.

Not using cold email.

Not doing cold DMs.

Not hopping on aggressive sales calls.

Just using a smarter system to build trust quickly and prove expertise (even without a portfolio to show).
