A little lie...

This could ruin your business

One lie.

Just one.

That’s all it takes to break someone’s trust.

So, the other day, I flipped open Instagram and started watching one of my favorite content creators.

He’s a coach… who coaches coaches on becoming a better coaches.

Coach-ception.

He’s someone I seriously considered investing five figures into to help me become a better copywriting coach.

And then I saw it…

In this short video he did on sales - he was sharing a closing tactic.

And a teeny, tiny part of the tactic was to subtly lie to prospects.

In fact, he laughed about it in the video to play it off like it’s a lighthearted joke.

I was shocked.

This guy always came across as a trustworthy, ethical coach (who also has massive results for his clients).

In one split second… all of that went down the drain.

That’s all it takes.

One second.

One moment.

One lie.

And it’s over.

In fact, he’s not the first guy I'd ever seen lie online (AND admit it)… which is next level foolishness to me.

A few months ago, I saw one of the biggest YouTube copywriting gurus instructing his audience to lie to land clients — and shared a specific story how he did this.

The entire video was telling new copywriters they SHOULD lie to prospects.

I was floored.

Why?

Because a little lie can spread like wildfire, causing a world of pain for those around you.

Not just in your personal life… but in business as well.

You should NEVER lie to prospect or a client.

Your reputation is more valuable than gold.

If you go bankrupt, you can always recover financially.

But…

It’s VERY difficult to recover a bankrupted reputation.

Before I was a copywriter, one of my previous bosses asked me to lie to a customer.

I told him I wouldn’t do it.

He said, “Why not?”

My response?

If I would lie for you… what makes you think I wouldn’t lie to you?

And don’t overlook the value of strong character in business.
